Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) Memorial announced Tuesday it has received $1.3 million to improve emergency medical services in northern Georgia.
A big part of the funding—$1 million from the State of Georgia—helped the hospital buy three ventilators and 12 new monitors and defibrillators for its ambulances. But the highlight is the purchase of two new ambulances, set to arrive later this year, which will help provide faster, better care in both Dade and Walker Counties.
CHI Memorial also received more than $323,000 from a federal grant to train EMS workers to better handle mental health and substance abuse emergencies. This two-year program will offer advanced medical training and provide new equipment like automated CPR devices and naloxone kits.
Overall, the grants will help CHI Memorial expand its EMS team and improve care for people in rural parts of northern Georgia.
