Man Killed in Interstate 24 Shooting; Chattanooga Police Seek Public’s Help

SHARE NOW

Chattanooga Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning on Interstate 24 Eastbound, and are now appealing to the public for help in identifying those responsible.

Authorities responded at approximately 2:57 a.m. on May 4 to reports of a person shot in the 18100 block of I-24 Eastbound near the Westside Drive exit. When officers arrived, they discovered a 22-year-old man inside a vehicle suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts from Chattanooga Fire Department and Hamilton County EMS, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings suggest the victim was shot by someone in another vehicle while driving eastbound on the interstate. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

As the investigation continues, CPD’s Homicide Unit is asking anyone who was driving in the area of Rossville Boulevard and I-24 Eastbound between 2:45 and 3:00 a.m. on May 4 to come forward, especially if they witnessed erratic driving, a road rage incident, or other suspicious behavior. Drivers with dash camera footage from that time and location are encouraged to upload their videos to the Chattanooga Police Community Portal.
