As Gas Tax Exemption Expires, Georgians Will Feel Price Raises at the Pump

Georgians will notice a rise in the prices at the pump as the gas tax exemption ends Wednesday.

In March, 2022, Governor Brian Kemp signed into law a gas tax exemption to ease the burden placed on Georgians after national inflation, suspending the gas tax placed on fuel.

Each following month, the tax suspension has been continued.

According to Patrick De Haan, Head of Petroleum Analysis at GasBuddy says that, on average, the tax holiday has saved motorists around $4-$5 per fill-up.

Stations buying gasoline on Wednesday are paying the untaxed price, and therefore may take a few days to sell through that gasoline, says De Haan.

According to the company, prices may rise by as much as 25-35 cents per gallon by this weekend.
