Sheryl Crow And More To Be Honored At Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction This Weekend

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame holds its 38th annual Induction Ceremony at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT Friday, November 3rd, from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This year's ceremony will stream live in real-time via Disney+, the first time the Rock Hall has done that since Fuse carried the 2009 ceremony live.

The show — which is slated to run three hours, but after all these years we know better — will remain streaming on Disney+ while ABC will broadcast a three-hour special of ceremony highlights at 8 p.m. on January 1st.

This year's inductees in the Performers category include Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, the Spinners and the late George Michael. DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray will receive awards for Musical Influence, while Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin, Chaka Khan and Al Kooper will be honored with awards for Musical Excellence. “Soul Train” host Don Cornelius receives the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

* Taupin is also among those who think Kooper’s honor in particularly is well overdue. Kooper is best-known as the founder of Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1967 but also worked in the Royal Teens and Blues Project and worked with Bob Dylan, Michael Bloomfield, Stephen Stills, the Rolling Stones, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many others. Al Kooper tells us that he was surprised to be selected:

“I wasn't aware of it at all, actually, so I was quite surprised and amused…Y'know, I don't have a plethora of awards.” :22 OC: plethora of awards

Inductees Crow, Elliott, Nelson and Khan are slated to perform during the ceremony, along with Stevie Nicks, Adam Levine, Carrie Underwood, Common, Miguel and Sia. The Presenters list includes Elton John, Ice-T, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, Dave Matthews, H.E.R., New Edition and St. Vincent.

More information about the ceremony and the class of 2023 can be found via rockhall.org.
