Former Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum will publish his autobiography, titled Double Talkin' Jive: True Rock 'N' Roll Stories From The Drummer Of Guns N' Roses, The Cult, And Velvet Revolver, on September 7th via the Rare Bird imprint. The book was co-written by Leif Eriksson and Martin Svensson — with a forward by ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons. The book's title takes its name from Guns' 1991 track from the Use Your Illusion I album.
Matt Sorum was a member of Guns from 1990 to 1997, and went on to drum in Slash's Snakepit and joined forces with Slash and Duff McKagan in Velvet Revolver.
In the press release for the book, readers are given a sneak peak as to what they can expect for Sorum's story:
Cocaine smuggling, shoot-outs, and never-ending decadent parties: Matt Sorum's Double Talkin' Jive could almost be described as the autobiographical equivalent of the film, Blow. But rather than becoming a premier drug smugglers, Matt Sorum becomes a world-famous drummer in Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver and The Cult. Sorum drops out of high school to become a drummer, but turns to selling pot to support himself, and later smuggling large quantities of cocaine.
When Sorum is given the chance to play in The Cult, he is finally able to make a living as a drummer. The very next year, Slash and Duff McKagan recruit Matt to join Guns N' Roses, and with that, Matt's life is transformed
Sorum opens up with forthright honesty, sharing anecdotes from his time touring the globe, battling drug and alcohol addiction, and navigating volatile relationships with Axl Rose, Slash, and the rest of the GNR team.
His career with the Cult, Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, Motörhead, the Hollywood Vampires, and Kings Of Chaos costars an ensemble of rock royalty, from Gene Simmons and Billy Idol to Steven Tyler and Alice Cooper.
Matt Sorum was not asked to rejoin Guns ' N' Roses for its latest incarnation. Early on, Sorum was very vocal about Axl Rose touring a version of Guns in which the singer was the sole original member, telling us a while back: ["I'm not saying I'm an original member, okay, but I understand the core of the band, which is Slash and Duff and probably Izzy. It's a shame, and y'know what, this goes back to a Paul McCartney thing. Does he call himself the Beatles? Not saying we were as big as the Beatles, but — does Sting call himself the Police? No. Does Jimmy Page and Robert Plant go out there calling themselves Led Zeppelin? Nope."] SOUNDCUE (:19 OC: . . . Led Zeppelin nope)
