August 10, 1934 - December 19, 2024
Frieda A. Shoemake, 90, of Trenton, GA, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
My mother wore combat boots. The world is less now, without her. Frieda Shoemake lived her life to the fullest. A proud military veteran, Frieda served in the WACS intelligence division, stationed in Germany. A world traveler, she visited Scotland, England, Australia, the Bahamas, China, Russia, Iceland, Germany, Iraq, England, and almost all 50 of the United States.
Frieda enjoyed people, and never met a stranger. Her love of children showed through her involvement in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, teaching Sunday School, and as a substitute teacher for over 30 years.
Frieda's love of adventure resulted in numerous camping trips, canoeing, kayaking, cycling, sky diving, and a solo car trip across the United States and back.
Always quick with a smile, Frieda succeeded in cheering up those in need, and always propelling her friends to laughter.
Frieda Shoemake is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Shoemake (DeLand, FL), and her sister, Dorothy Stevenson (Charlottesville VA). Frieda is survived by her brother, Al Steindorff (Yorktown Heights, NY), son, Whelan Shoemake (Golden, CO), daughter, Merewyn (Jimmy) Buckles (Trenton, GA), and step-daughter, Diana Shoemake (Rossville, GA), and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Graveside services will full military honors will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
