The Dade County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a pursuit that ended in two arrested on drugs and weapons charges.
A press release by the Sheriff’s Office on Facebook says “On Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at approximately 3:22 pm, several Dade County Patrol units were in the area of Hwy 299 concentrating patrol efforts when the silver Buick pictured, passed deputies traveling north on Hwy 299.
The two male subjects also pictured, ducked down inside the vehicle and immediately attempted to flee the area. A Dade County patrol unit quickly pursued. The suspects fled through Templeton Trailer Park and then exited the park accessing Hwy 299 once more traveling south back towards the interstate at a high rate of speed.
The suspect vehicle turned onto the I 24 EB on ramp attempting to access the Interstate. The Dade County patrol unit successfully ended the pursuit with a pit maneuver causing the vehicle to exit the roadway and rest on the embankment.
Both subjects were taken into custody without injury or further incident. 101 grams of marijuana and packaging for resale was recovered from the vehicle in addition to a .22 caliber pistol, drug related objects, and open alcohol container.
The driver, Eric Tyra of Lookout Valley has 4 outstanding warrants through Tennessee in addition to Felony Fleeing, Felony firearm charges, Possession with intent to distribute, and many traffic violations.
The passenger, Cody Elrod of Higdon, AL was also charged with Possession and weapons offenses.
Sheriff Cross commends his deputies for ending a dangerous high speed chase, “I am amazed each time I see my officers work together to stop these criminals. They have no regard for the safety of our citizens and place everyone at risk…..my deputies ended the pursuit quickly and eliminated those risks to the public.””
