Traffic Alert: SR 157 on Lookout Mountain Closed for Emergency Pipe Repair
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA — Motorists traveling on Lookout Mountain should prepare for detours and delays this week as the Georgia Department of Transportation conducts an emergency pipe repair project.
According to GDOT, State Route 157 will be closed at its intersection with State Route 136 on Lookout Mountain beginning Monday, June 8, and continuing through Wednesday, June 10, weather permitting.
The closure is necessary to allow crews to complete emergency repairs to a damaged pipe in the area.
Detour Route
Drivers traveling northbound on SR 157 will be detoured by turning left onto SR 136, then taking SR 189 north back to SR 157.
GDOT expects the repairs to be completed by Wednesday, with normal traffic patterns resuming once work is finished.
Expect Delays
Transportation officials are advising motorists to:
- Expect delays in the work zone
- Follow posted detour signs
- Reduce speeds and use caution around workers and equipment
- Allow extra travel time when traveling on Lookout Mountain
Drivers can check current traffic conditions and road closures by calling 511, visiting Georgia 511, or using the Georgia 511 mobile app.
GDOT says crews will work to complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible while minimizing disruptions to traffic.
