Strong Storms Possible Tonight Across the Tri-State Area; Colder Weather Arrives Monday
Residents across Northwest Georgia, Northeast Alabama, and Southeast Tennessee should prepare for the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms tonight as a powerful cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, today will be the last warm day for a while, with afternoon highs reaching the mid-70s. However, conditions will quickly change later this evening as storms develop ahead of the approaching front.
Forecasters say some storms could become severe, producing wind gusts over 60 miles per hour and a few possible tornadoes. Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware and make sure they have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially during the overnight hours.
After the storms move through, much colder air will arrive on Monday, with daytime temperatures expected to fall into the upper 30s to low 40s.
Rain may briefly mix with snow late Monday or early Tuesday, but forecasters say no accumulation is expected.
Even colder temperatures are expected Monday and Tuesday nights, with lows dropping well below freezing across the region.
Officials recommend keeping phones charged, monitoring local weather updates, and having a plan in place in case severe weather warnings are issued.
