A bill aimed at expanding sick leave flexibility for Georgia teachers and school personnel has advanced in the Georgia Senate.
Senate Bill 412, a priority measure for Senate Republicans, passed out of the Senate Education and Youth Committee on Tuesday. The legislation would increase the number of accumulated sick leave days that teachers and other school employees may use each year for personal or professional reasons, raising the limit from three days to five.
Under the bill, employees would be required to receive prior approval before using the days, but would not be required to disclose the specific reason for their absence.
Supporters say the measure provides educators with additional flexibility while maintaining accountability within school systems. Senate Bill 412 will now move forward for further consideration by the full Senate.
