Scottsboro Shooting Incident Claims One Life, Suspect Arrested

A shooting incident on Saturday, July 22, in Scottsboro left one person dead and another in custody. According to the Scottsboro Police Department (SPD), the deadly altercation occurred in the 300 block of Maple Avenue at approximately 1 p.m.

Upon receiving a distress call regarding the shooting, SPD officers rushed to the scene. There, they discovered a male victim who had sustained critical injuries from the gunfire. Immediate medical assistance was provided, and the victim was swiftly transported to Highlands Medical Center. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the victim succumbed to their wounds.

The authorities quickly apprehended a suspect. Gerry Paul Kelley, 62, a resident of Scottsboro, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. He now faces serious charges of murder and is currently being held at the Jackson County Jail pending further legal proceedings.

Through their thorough investigation, SPD officials have uncovered that the shooting resulted from a heated argument between two neighbors. The situation escalated tragically, resulting in the loss of a precious life and affecting the lives of both families involved.
