Dade County Schools Superintendent Josh Ingle believes neither bus driver involved in last Friday afternoon’s accident will be ticketed after speaking to Georgia State Patrol Troopers investigating the incident.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety says it happened just before 4pm on State Route 136 near Lookout Creek, just east of Dade County High School.
The mishap concluded the first week of classes for Dade County Schools.
The preliminary accident investigation suggests one bus had stopped due to traffic near the Gulch Road intersection, with another bus striking it from behind.
” It was very intimidating when you first come up on the scene,” recalled Superintendent Josh Ingle, speaking with KWN’s Evan Stone Tuesday morning on The KWN Morning News.
One driver and one student suffered minor injuries. Three students released to a parent by paramedics were later medically checked by a physician.
“You know, bumps; bruises, but no broken bones or anything like that,” said Ingle. “It could be much worse, but everyone’s gonna recover; I think one elementary student may have had a concussion.”
Ingle says both buses involved will be kept off the road until state investigators approve them for future use.
” Those buses have been parked since the accident,” says Ingle. “By law. we can’t put those on the road until they give us the clearance, so we can’t send them to the repair shop until they inspect the bus.” Ingle says the compliance division was expected to begin their on site investigation of both vehicles Tuesday.
