Regional Opioid Planning Effort Underway, Including Dade County

CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga. — Catoosa County recently hosted a regional meeting with state and community partners to begin planning how opioid settlement funds and local resources can be used to address opioid addiction across Northwest Georgia — including Dade County.

The meeting brought together representatives from Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, and Walker counties to share ideas and coordinate strategies focused on treatment, prevention, and recovery services related to opioid drug abuse.

Representing Dade County at the meeting were County Executive Don Townsend and County Clerk Gidget Knight, who joined regional leaders in discussions aimed at identifying effective ways to leverage settlement funding alongside existing community services.

Officials say the planning process is focused on maximizing the impact of opioid settlement dollars while tailoring solutions to the specific needs of each participating county.

The opioid settlement funds stem from nationwide legal actions against opioid manufacturers and distributors, intended to support programs that expand access to treatment, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve recovery outcomes.

Additional meetings and opportunities for community input are expected as the regional planning process continues.
