Patrick Core: Light Accumulating Snow Possible; Bitter Cold Expected This Weekend
NORTH GEORGIA — Chief Meteorologist Patrick Core says accumulating snow is becoming more likely across the region, though totals are expected to remain light.
According to Core, snow showers could develop late Friday night and continue into Saturday morning, bringing the potential for minor accumulations in parts of North Georgia.
Core says the system is expected to deliver only a glancing blow locally, while areas farther east — particularly toward the Carolinas — could experience significant snowfall and possible blizzard conditions near the Carolina coast.
Despite limited snowfall locally, dangerous cold will be the primary concern.
Saturday is expected to be bitterly cold, with wind chills dropping below zero in some areas. Gusty northwest winds could reach 30 miles per hour or higher, creating hazardous conditions for anyone outdoors.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for extreme cold by protecting pipes, limiting time outside, bringing pets indoors, and checking on elderly neighbors.
Patrick Core says conditions will gradually improve later this weekend, but residents should continue monitoring forecasts as small changes could impact local conditions.
