New Hitting Facility Construction Project Underway At Dade County High School

The Dade County High School baseball team awaits the upcoming holiday season knowing their collective “big gift” is far too large to be found under any Christmas Tree. Wolverine sluggers also know their baseball benefactor won’t be Santa Claus, but rather the Dade County Board of Education.

Monday night at their regularly scheduled meeting, Dade Schools Superintendent Josh Ingle gave board members an update on the construction project for a new hitting facility currently underway on Tradition Drive. Ingle says the build out for the complex is on schedule, with cement laid just last week with the contractor believing the year’s end completion date is quite feasible, weather dependent.

In separate action relating to the facility’s construction, Ingle proposed for the board to accept a $24,983.67 bid from Intec to install interior and exterior cameras with remote access capability for the new sports building.
Ingle notes the bidder is the same company which currently handles Dade County Schools’ security cameras with few, if any issues.

Board Member at Large Dr. Jayne Griffin expressed surprise at the projected cost of the cameras for the facility, but noted a little less than $25,000 is not a lot these days when considering student safety.

Superintendent Ingle concurred, saying anywhere students and faculty interact should have proper surveillance. Ingle also pointed out the cost would be more to install the cameras post-construction.

The motion for hitting facility cameras was approved unanimously by the board, as were monthly financials and general fund reports and a schedule for school board meetings in the coming year.
