Candidate Jane DixonMy name is Jane Dixon, and I am announcing my candidacy for the County Commission seatrepresenting District 1 in the North Dade community.I have proudly called Dade County home for the past 31 years, living on the Creek Road in thecommunity of Wildwood. Many of you may recognize me as the “Red-Headed Daylily Lady,” apassion I developed while learning from the late Corene Murphy, the original “Daylily Lady” ofDade County. Others may know me through my years of service to the youth of our communityand my involvement with local organizations.I have had the privilege of serving as President of the Trenton-Dade Optimist Club and asChairperson of the Optimist Club Essay and Oratorical Competitions. Through this work, I havebeen honored to present awards to local students and scholarship recipients for more than tenyears at ceremonies for graduating seniors at Dade County High School. Supporting andencouraging young people in our community has been one of the most rewarding parts of myservice.Since 2020, I have also been proud to serve as a board member with the Alliance for Dade andthe Light Up Trenton initiative, helping promote the pride and enjoyment of living in DadeCounty. If you are a regular reader of The Dade County Sentinel, you may have seen some ofthe articles I contribute about our community. My most recent opportunity to serve has been as Director of Tree City USA for Trenton,Georgia. Working alongside a dedicated board, we strive to enhance and preserve the naturalbeauty of our community. Following the leadership of Eloise Gass in this position has been bothan honor and a pleasure.I also serve as a board member representing Dade County with North Georgia CommunityAction, Inc., helping support programs that provide assistance to local residents in need. Onseveral occasions, I have also enjoyed volunteering with Friends of the Park during communityevents such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Before settling at my farm and home in Wildwood, I spent many years in education and smallbusiness in the Chattanooga area. I owned and operated Iron Horse Gymnastics Academy andtaught in several school systems, including Chattanooga State and the University of Tennesseeat Chattanooga. I retired from the Hamilton County Department of Education as a Director in theExceptional Education Department after 33 years of service in education.Following retirement, I wanted to dedicate my time and energy to serving the community I nowcall home. What began as a simple life as a small farmer and daylily enthusiast quickly openeddoors for volunteer service. Over the years, serving in both leadership and supporting roles hastaught me the importance of listening, evaluating challenges carefully, and making responsibledecisions that benefit the entire community.I support thoughtful and managed growth in Dade County. As a former small business owner, Iunderstand the risks and hard work involved in building a successful business. I believe inencouraging responsible economic development that strengthens our workforce, supports localbusinesses, and preserves the character and values that make Dade County such a wonderfulplace to live.

As your County Commissioner, I will work to support the continued development of ourcommunity while maintaining responsible oversight of county government. The Commission’sprimary responsibilities include setting policies, approving the county budget, establishing themillage rate, and overseeing county infrastructure and public safety. These responsibilities mustalways be approached with careful judgment and accountability.I live my life as a good steward of my personal resources, and I will maintain that same carefuland conservative approach when it comes to managing taxpayer dollars.I enjoy conversations with members of our community and believe strongly in listening to thevoices of our citizens. I am committed to seeking out concerns, ideas, and solutions that willhelp Dade County grow and prosper for this generation and for generations to come.I respectfully ask for your vote and your support as I seek the opportunity to serve the citizens ofDade County as your Commissioner.— Jane Dixon
