We have a Information on a story out of Jackson County , where authorities are searching for a man who briefly kidnapped an 11-year-old boy on Sand Mountain in Flat Rock Wednesday.
According to Sheriff Rocky Harnen, the incident happened just before 7 a.m. on County Road 14 in Flat Rock. The young boy was out walking his dog when he spotted a man apparently breaking into his mother’s car.
That’s when the man pulled a gun, forced the child into a truck, and drove off.
Just a quarter mile down the road, the man hit the boy in the stomach with the butt of the gun and pushed him out of the vehicle. Before driving away, he threw the weapon out the window — a gun later confirmed to belong to the boy’s mother.
Fortunately, the child is okay and was able to provide deputies with a description of both the suspect and the vehicle.
According to reports Sheriff Harnen praised the boy, saying, “The kid was pretty smart. He didn’t panic.”
The suspect is still on the loose. Investigators are looking for a black, single-cab truck — possibly a Ford Ranger.
If you have any information, you’re urged to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
