An Ider resident’s tranquil home life was disrupted when an intruder broke into her residence and used her shower. The incident has prompted Alabama authorities to emphasize the importance of home security systems as a means of safeguarding against such trespassers.

Ider’s Police Chief, Stephen Malone, remarked, “I highly encourage everyone to have some type of security system and especially a camera system alerting homeowners if someone is on their property.”

The ordeal began when the Ider Police Department received multiple complaints from residents residing within the city limits regarding a persistent trespasser. These concerned residents reported that an unknown man had been approaching their homes, attempting to open doors, and wandering around their properties without authorization.

Through the diligent review of home surveillance footage, law enforcement was able to identify the suspect as Raymond Phillips.

On October 11, another report of a trespasser matching Phillips’ description came in. DeKalb County deputies promptly responded to the area, which was located just outside Ider city limits. Unfortunately, the intruder, Raymond Phillips, was not found during their search.

Shortly thereafter, a vigilant citizen approached the DeKalb authorities, reporting that a man had entered his daughter’s property. The resident had observed the intruder through her home security system.

Deputies immediately proceeded to the mentioned residence, where they discovered a broken doorknob on the entry door. Upon entering, they found Raymond Phillips taking a shower inside the house, with discarded clothes strewn on the floor, according to the police.

Subsequently, DeKalb authorities arrested Phillips and charged him with third-degree burglary and trespassing. Under Alabama law, a third-degree burglary charge is applied when an individual unlawfully enters a building with the intent to commit a crime.

In light of these incidents, the Ider Police Department is urging residents to promptly report any sightings of Raymond Phillips on their property or through their home security systems to either their office or the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Welden stressed the importance of home security systems, noting that they significantly enhance the probability of apprehending criminals and resolving such cases.

“I truly feel for this victim. I know she’s now uncomfortable and scared in her own home,” Chief Malone added. “I’m just thankful we were able to prevent any further harm or her arriving home during the burglary.”
