IDER, AL – Due to a recent increase in traffic collisions, roadway fatalities, and reports of reckless driving, the Ider Police Department initiated a targeted saturation patrol to improve roadway safety and crack down on dangerous driving behaviors.
The operation led to multiple arrests, including cases involving impaired drivers transporting children, narcotics possession, and other serious traffic violations.
Arrests and Incidents:
Alayna Blair was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Reckless Endangerment. Officers initiated a traffic stop after observing her traveling nearly 15 miles per hour over the speed limit. Blair showed multiple signs of impairment, and after failing field sobriety tests and a roadside breath test, was taken into custody. A small child was found in the vehicle, and due to the nature of the charges, the Department of Human Resources was contacted and took custody of the child.
Tommy Bonner was stopped after being observed driving on the wrong side of the roadway. Officers discovered he was in possession of Alprazolam, Marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, leading to his arrest on multiple charges.
Steven Warren was observed swerving into oncoming traffic several times. A traffic stop revealed he had active felony warrants for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Chemical Endangerment of a Child. He was also found to be in possession of a crystal-like substance that tested positive for Methamphetamine and Fentanyl. Warren was arrested on the outstanding warrants and faces new drug-related charges.
Statement from Chief of Police:
“I want to personally commend my officers for their dedication, teamwork, and vigilance,” said Chief Malone. “Through proactive policing and attention to detail, we were able to potentially save the life of a small child and prevent a possible overdose — all from what began as routine traffic stops.
While we understand that being pulled over for what may seem like a ‘minor’ traffic infraction can be frustrating or inconvenient, please remember: these stops often uncover much larger and more dangerous threats to public safety. Our department remains committed to protecting the people of Ider and keeping our roadways safe.”
The Ider Police Department encourages all drivers to follow traffic laws, avoid impaired driving, and report reckless behavior to authorities. Community safety is a shared responsibility, and your vigilance can make a difference.
