Ider Man Killed in DeKalb County Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer
DEKALB COUNTY, AL — A man from Ider was killed Wednesday in a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in DeKalb County.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the wreck occurred on Interstate 59 near County Road 140, about one mile south of the Georgia state line, shortly after 5:15 p.m.
Authorities say 62-year-old Alvin Benefield was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 when it collided with a 2023 Volvo tractor-trailer. Following the initial impact, the pickup then struck a 2020 Ford F-150 head-on.
Troopers say Benefield was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second pickup truck was transported to the hospital for treatment. A passenger in Benefield’s vehicle was also injured and taken to the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation
