Heat Indexes Expected to Reach up to 107 degrees on Friday and Saturday

Dade County EMA Director Alex Case reports that the National Weather Service in Atlanta (NWS) has shared the warning that Georgia will be seeing elevated heat indexes over the weekend. Northwest Georgia could see indexes of up to 107 degrees on Friday, June 29th and Saturday, June 30th.
Dade County will be putting out a heat safety campaign on the County EMA Facebook page and Twitter account. Residents are encouraged to share this information to help get the information out to as many as possible.
An average of 702 heat-related deaths occur each year in the United States. 67,512 emergency department visits happen annually due to heat. On average, 9,235 people are hospitalized due to heat. Last year, a reported 33 children died in hot cars!
Those most at risk facing the heat include farmers, landscapers, construction workers, road crews, firefighters, factory workers, athletes, and any pets who live outside.
