A Heat Advisory is now in effect for Dade County from 1 p.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Heat index values are expected to climb as high as 107 degrees, making conditions potentially dangerous for residents exposed to prolonged heat or physical activity outdoors.
The advisory is part of a broader warning covering much of north and central Georgia, where high temperatures and humidity are combining to create extreme heat conditions.
Health officials caution that the heat may lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially among vulnerable groups such as young children, older adults, and those without access to air conditioning.
Adding to the risk, overnight temperatures Tuesday will remain elevated, providing little relief before the heat intensifies again on Wednesday.
Residents are urged to take safety precautions, including:
-
Drinking water frequently
-
Avoiding outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
-
Staying in cool, air-conditioned environments
-
Checking on elderly neighbors and relatives
-
Ensuring pets have access to shade and plenty of fresh water
Local emergency officials also recommend adjusting outdoor events to avoid the peak heat hours.
