The Georgia House of Representatives has approved legislation that would further reduce the state’s income tax rate beginning next year.

Lawmakers passed House Bill 1001 on Wednesdau. The measure proposes accelerating a planned tax cut by lowering the state income tax rate by an additional two basis points, from 5.19 percent to 4.99 percent.

If signed into law, the reduced rate would take effect July 1, 2026.

Supporters of the bill say the reduction would provide financial relief to taxpayers and continue the state’s ongoing effort to lower income taxes. The measure now moves to the Georgia State Senate for consideration.
