DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WDEF) — A man wanted on multiple child sex crime charges out of Mobile, Alabama, was arrested Wednesday after DeKalb County authorities discovered he had been living at a local church.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), deputies received a report on July 16 that Christopher Keith Nichelson was staying on the premises of a church in the county. Nichelson was wanted on active warrants from Mobile County for First Degree Sodomy, First Degree Rape, and Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 12.
When deputies arrived at the church, they located Nichelson sitting in a vehicle on the property. Initially, he identified himself to law enforcement as “Kevin,” but officers were able to confirm his true identity, leading to his immediate arrest.
Officials emphasized that the church was fully cooperative during the investigation and unaware of Nichelson’s criminal background or outstanding warrants. The DCSO confirmed that he was not in contact with children while residing at the church.
Nichelson is now in custody and awaiting extradition or further legal proceedings related to the charges filed in Mobile.
The investigation is ongoing.
