Driver Survives 80-Foot Drop Off Sand Mountain — Airlifted to Erlanger Hospital

DADE COUNTY, GA — A vehicle left the roadway on Sand Mountain Wednesday morning, plunging an estimated 80 feet down the mountainside before coming to rest below.

The driver, a 29-year-old male from Dade County, was rescued from the scene and airlifted by LifeForce  to Erlanger Hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition following the crash.

The incident occurred off Highway 301 near District Line Road, where the Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation. Emergency responders worked for approximately one hour to safely bring the victim back up the embankment.
