DeKalb County Man Arrested Following Assault and Police Pursuit

A DeKalb County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a woman, resulting in serious injuries that required hospitalization.

On Monday, June 30, 2025, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence near the Powell community. Upon arrival, deputies encountered an ambulance transporting the injured woman to a hospital. The victim suffered serious physical injuries and remains hospitalized.

The following day, July 1, 2025, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for James Edward Wooten in connection with the assault.

That same day, deputies spotted Wooten driving a silver Nissan Altima near County Roads 47 and 48. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, Wooten fled, prompting a police pursuit.

Wooten was eventually apprehended and is charged with First Degree Assault, Felony Attempt to Elude, and DUI – combined influence.
