Dade County Sheriff’s Office Adopts New K9 Policy Following Tragic Loss of K9 Georgia
TRENTON, GA — – Keeping with its commitment to transparency, the Dade County Sheriff’s Office has released its newly updated K9 policy, which officially went into effect on July 24, 2025.
The entire K9 policy has been reviewed, overhauled, and rewritten. Among the most important changes is a section added in direct response to the tragic death of K9 Georgia earlier this year.
Under the new policy, K9 handlers found in violation of the updated guidelines will face disciplinary action. Sheriff’s Office leadership emphasized that accountability and proper care are at the center of the changes.
Officials noted that this policy update is not just about procedures but about honoring the memory of K9 Georgia and ensuring that all future K9 partners are given the highest standards of care and protection.
