Dade First–Family Connection and Dade County Schools are celebrating another successful Dade County Kid’s Day after the community event served hundreds of local children and families in July.
Now in its third year, the annual event brought together schools, local organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community partners to help families prepare for the upcoming school year.
According to organizers, Kid’s Day welcomed 186 school-aged children and drew an estimated attendance of more than 400 people. The event featured 27 community partner booths offering resources and services to local families.
Volunteers also provided a variety of free services during the event, including 15 health screenings, 48 free haircuts, and $400 in grocery gift cards distributed to families. Organizers credited the event’s success to the support of 72 volunteers, community partners, vendors, and local supporters, saying the event would not be possible without the community working together.
Planning is already underway for next year’s Kid’s Day, and Dade First–Family Connection is inviting businesses, organizations, and community members interested in participating to get involved early to help make the event even bigger and more impactful.
The organization is also encouraging the public to attend its upcoming Collaborative Meetings, which focus on strengthening families and building a thriving community. The next meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, at 12:30 p.m. at Guthrie’s, located at 5404 Georgia Highway 136 in Trenton.
Additional Collaborative Meeting dates are scheduled for Oct. 22, Jan. 28, March 25, and May 27, with each meeting beginning at 12:30 p.m. Organizers say the calendar is open for guest speakers, discussion topics, and mini-training sessions, and they welcome suggestions and participation from anyone interested in supporting Dade County families.
