Dade County Executive Addresses Credit Card Investigation in K-WIN Interview

Dade County Executive Don Townsend spoke with K-WIN Radio Thursday morning about the growing controversy surrounding county credit card spending and the law enforcement review that followed allegations raised against Commissioner Melissa Bradford during last week’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

Townsend discussed the county’s response after Sheriff Ray Cross announced that his office had received multiple requests from citizens to investigate allegations of improper credit card use by a county commissioner.

The Sheriff’s Office says it is reviewing documents and receipts provided by citizens and has been communicating with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Cross has asked the GBI to determine how the matter should move forward as the review unfolds.

The allegations involving Bradford were raised publicly during the September 3 commission meeting and included questions about expenses associated with her July trip to a National Association of Counties conference in New Orleans.

No charges have been announced, and the allegations have not established that Bradford or any other county official violated state law.
