Dade County EMA Issues Travel Warning Due to Icy Road Conditions

TRENTON, Ga. — The Dade County Emergency Management Agency reports slick and dangerous road conditions on Sand Mountain and Lookout Mountain due to ongoing freezing rain.

Officials say ice is accumulating on roadways, making travel extremely hazardous — especially in higher elevations.

Residents are urged to stay home if possible. Those who must travel are asked to slow down and use extreme caution, as road conditions on the mountains may appear wet but are actually icy.

Emergency officials stress that conditions can change rapidly as temperatures remain below freezing.

Motorists are reminded:

  • Roads may freeze suddenly

  • Bridges and shaded areas are especially dangerous

  • Even experienced drivers can lose control on icy surfaces

Dade County EMA will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.

For emergency updates, residents are encouraged to follow official county channels and local media outlets.
