Trenton, GA – August 4, 2025 — A new chapter in Dade County’s future began this morning as local leaders, officials, and community partners gathered to break ground on a long-awaited affordable housing project.

The ceremony, held at 10 a.m., marked the official start of construction on a development that will bring 24 new apartment units to the area — including 12 two-bedroom apartments and 12 three-bedroom apartments. The project is being led by Steven M. Henry Construction, Inc., with the goal of providing high-quality, affordable housing for Dade County residents.

In attendance were representatives from Top of Georgia Economic Development, the Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority, the Dade County Industrial Authority, the Alliance for Dade, and the Bank of Dade. County Executive Don Townsend, Trenton Mayor Alex Case, and Georgia State Representative Mike Cameron also joined the celebration, highlighting the collaboration and shared commitment that made the project possible.

“This is an important step in addressing the growing need for affordable housing in our community,” said Don Townsend. “It’s encouraging to see so many stakeholders working together to create opportunities for our residents.”

Mayor Alex Case echoed the sentiment, adding, “This project is about more than bricks and mortar — it’s about investing in the future of Dade County and the people who call it home.”

The development is part of a broader initiative to ensure that families and individuals have access to safe, affordable, and modern housing within the county. With demand for housing on the rise, local leaders say this project couldn’t have come at a better time.

Construction is expected to begin immediately, with a timeline for completion to be announced in the coming months.

As shovels hit the dirt and the first steps toward construction are taken, today’s event stands as a milestone in Dade County’s ongoing efforts to support growth, strengthen community ties, and provide for its residents.
