Dade Commissioners to Consider New Credit Card Policy, Water Quality and Land Purchase Agreement Thursday

Dade County Commissioners will take up a proposed new county credit-card policy, water quality and infrastructure concerns and a land purchase agreement during a busy series of meetings Thursday evening.

The Board of Commissioners workshop begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 1, followed by the regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Commissioners’ Public Meeting Room at the Dade County Administrative Building.

One of the most closely watched items on the workshop agenda is Resolution R-48-26, the Dade County Purchasing Card/Credit Card Program Policy and Procedures.

The proposed policy comes as county credit-card use has received increased public attention in recent weeks.

Commissioners Phillip Hartline and Bob Woods are also scheduled to discuss employee and elected official per diem reimbursement.

Water Quality Concerns on Agenda

Water quality and infrastructure issues are also scheduled for discussion, with Elizabeth Zeller listed on the agenda for that item.

The discussion comes as some Dade County residents have recently reported concerns about cloudy or discolored water.

The agenda itself does not provide details about the specific water quality or infrastructure issues that will be discussed.

Land Agreement, Elections Building and 4-H Improvements

Commissioners are also scheduled to discuss a Trust for Public Land purchase and sale agreement with Dade County, with Project Manager Starr Woods listed to address the board.

Other items include an update on construction of the new Elections Building and proposed upgrades to the Dade County 4-H and County Extension Office.

Commissioners will also hear information concerning the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service/Conservation Program deadline and the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program Grant.

The workshop agenda also includes a proposed amendment to the county’s Special Use Permit ordinance and a resolution concerning disposal of a surplus 2014 Jeep Compass.

Commissioners are scheduled to recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and October 4 through October 10 as Fire Prevention Week.

Following the workshop, commissioners will hold their regular monthly meeting beginning at 7 p.m.

The regular meeting includes citizen participation, district reports from commissioners and an executive update from County Executive Don Townsend.

Presentations are also scheduled from Dade County 4-H Agent Laura Beth Cunningham, Dade County Public Library Manager Lydia Soucy and Alliance for Dade President and CEO Sandy White.

Chief Financial Officer Rebecca Jones is scheduled to present the county’s monthly financial reports, followed by consideration of the monthly financials and investments.

Items discussed during the 6 p.m. workshop can then be considered by commissioners under new business during the regular meeting.

Both meetings are scheduled for Thursday, October 1, at the Dade County Administrative Building.
