Arrangements for Funeral for Former Sheriff Street Shared; Roads Around Square Begin Closing Tonight

Former Five-term Dade County Sheriff Philip Street will be laid to rest on Wednesday. 

Governor Brian Kemp shared an article on Street from the AJC and offered his condolences on Facebook Tuesday afternoon. 

Marty, the girls, and I are praying for the loved ones of Sheriff Philip Street, who passed away this weekend after a battle with COVID-19,” Governor Kemp said. “We are grateful for his service to Dade County, and we join all Georgians in mourning this loss.”

Dade County and the Sheriff’s Office shared arrangements for Street’s funeral on Tuesday as well, informing citizens of road closures around the square for which will begin Tuesday night in preparation for Wednesday morning’s visitation and funeral. Tonight, Tuesday, December 1, we will begin blocking the streets in front of the Justice Building in preparation for tomorrow’s visitation and service.

Tomorrow – December 2

Visitation will be at the Justice Building at 75 Case Avenue from 11:00 until 12:45 with the funeral beginning at 1:00. The family has requested that COVID procedures be followed. Out of respect for the family, we are asking that people wear a mask and remain socially distanced.

The funeral service also at the Justice Building and conducted by Moore Funeral Home will begin at 1:00. The service will be officiated by Pastor Dennis Flaugher and Pastor Emeritus Reece Fauscett from Trenton United Methodist Church where Sheriff Street was a member.

The service will conclude at 2:00 pm with a procession, around the square, to the internment at Lake Hills Cemetery.
