It appears Dade County could be in line to receive money from a class-action lawsuit filed by local governments and the State of Georgia against the large pharmaceutical company ______ as it relates to the opioid epidemic.
A little over a year ago Dade County entered into the class action procedure; at least one company Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc has proposed a settlement in the suit. County Attorney, Robin Rogers told commissioners that the exact amount would weigh on how many local governments responded to the lawsuit; but Dade County’s portion could be between $175,000 and $235,000. The money would presumably go into the general fund; but as Rogers pointed out, it would need to be used for “remediation and abatement of opioid issues.”
The meeting was to approve the documents to be filed in a timely manly. You can watch the meeting, which lasts only 4 and a half minutes, below. However, these may be a very important four minutes to the county.
