CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Patients in the Chattanooga area now have clarity after CommonSpirit Health and Cigna reached a new contract agreement, restoring in-network coverage at several local facilities.

The agreement includes CommonSpirit Memorial Hospitals, CommonSpirit Medical Group, and The Chattanooga Heart Institute. It applies to Cigna members enrolled in employer-sponsored Open Access and LocalPlus plans.

Officials say the deal is retroactive to February 1, ensuring patients maintain continuous coverage—even if they were impacted during the negotiation period.

The announcement follows weeks of uncertainty, as patients questioned whether they would lose in-network access or be forced to find new providers if an agreement wasn’t reached.

With the new contract finalized, patients can continue visiting their current doctors and using familiar facilities without disruption.

CommonSpirit described the agreement as a positive step forward, stressing the importance of keeping reliable healthcare options available in the community. Leaders say their focus throughout the process was to protect patient access and ensure long-term care needs are met.

The resolution provides reassurance for patients who depend on these providers, bringing stability back to healthcare access across the Chattanooga region.
