Cold Weather Advisory Issued for North Georgia Through Tuesday Morning

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Cold Weather Advisory that will remain in effect from 8 p.m. tonight through 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters say dangerously cold wind chills are expected across much of north Georgia, including Dade County.

Wind chills — or “feels like” temperatures — are forecast to range from -5 to 5 degrees across north Georgia, with 5 to 15 degrees possible in central Georgia.

In addition, below-freezing temperatures are expected to persist through midday Tuesday, increasing the risk for:

  • Frozen or burst pipes

  • Cold-related illnesses

  • Continued hazardous travel conditions, especially in portions of northeast Georgia where ice remains on roadways

Emergency officials urge residents to take precautions, including:

  • Protecting exposed pipes

  • Bringing pets indoors

  • Checking on elderly neighbors and those without reliable heat

  • Limiting time outdoors during the overnight and early morning hours

Dade County Emergency Management reminds residents that warming shelters remain open for anyone experiencing power outages or loss of heat.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve Tuesday afternoon as temperatures begin to rise.
