The City of Trenton is reminding residents that enforcement of its updated automated trash collection requirements will begin Wednesday, with officials urging everyone to make sure their garbage carts are properly placed to avoid missed pickups.
Under the city’s guidelines, trash carts must be positioned at least three feet away from any other cart, mailbox, vehicle, or other object so the automated collection arm on the garbage truck can safely access the container.
Officials also say cart lids must be completely closed, and only city-approved containers will be serviced. Any unapproved trash cans will not be picked up.
Residents are also reminded to place their carts with the front of the container facing the roadway and the handle facing away from the street. To ensure collection, carts should be placed at the curb either the night before pickup or no later than 6 a.m. on scheduled collection days.
Anyone needing an additional city-issued trash cart or a sticker for an approved container is asked to visit Trenton City Hall to complete the necessary paperwork.
City officials encourage residents with questions about the updated collection procedures to contact City Hall directly, noting that comments on social media are not always monitored.
