During August’s Dade County Board of Commissioner’s meeting, discussions turned heated quickly as two concerned citizens voiced their dissent regarding current political goings-on in the county.

Suzie Talbot started the citizen’s participation with a media concern. She alleges that Chairman Ted Rumley often goes on public media outlets, such as the K-WIN Today program, where he speaks every Thursday morning just before the 9:00 hour, and presents ideas as a united front by the commissioners, when not all commissioners have agreed on that idea. “In the future, I suggest we be mindful that, until the appropriate processes have occurred, one commissioner should not presume to present the position of other commissioners, especially on a public platform.”

Suzie also expressed concern that the new election office was being rushed, as it does not have a deadline. The commission has been moving forward with a new election’s office, due to the fact that elections are currently held much too closely to where officials who are running in those elections work, breaking federal law. The next election is three months away, in November.
