ROCKY FACE, Ga. — Christian Hurd, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former candidate in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District special election, announced Saturday that he is withdrawing from the race to replace former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Hurd said he plans instead to seek a seat in the Georgia House of Representatives, focusing on representing parts of Catoosa, Walker and Whitfield counties.
In a statement, Hurd said the decision followed discussions with his family, supporters and advisers, and was made with the goal of unifying Republican voters in northwest Georgia ahead of the special election.
“I recognize that my path in the special election has closed, and I will take my fight to represent Catoosa, Walker, and Whitfield Counties in the Georgia Legislature,” Hurd said.
Hurd said he believes Republican voters should consolidate behind a single candidate to counter Democratic nominee Shawn Harris in the congressional race. He also announced his support for Republican candidate Clay Fuller, calling him the best choice to carry conservative priorities forward in the district.
“I entered this race driven by a deep love for Northwest Georgia, our state, and our nation,” Hurd said, citing his military service and background in intelligence as motivations for his initial campaign. “After reflecting on the crowded, talented field and the path forward, I believe the best way to support our shared conservative values is to step back and focus on electing a fighter who will be guided by his faith and place America first.”
Hurd emphasized that his withdrawal from the congressional race is not an end to his political involvement, but a strategic shift toward advancing conservative policy goals at the state level.
The special election for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District was called following Greene’s resignation from Congress.
