Governor Brian Kemp Signs Amended FY 2026 Budget Delivering $2 Billion in Tax Relief

Governor Brian Kemp has signed House Bill 973, approving Georgia’s amended Fiscal Year 2026 state budget.

The plan returns about $2 billion in tax relief to Georgia taxpayers while also increasing funding for several major state priorities.

Tax Relief Details

The amended budget includes measures designed to return surplus funds to taxpayers:

  • More than $2 billion in income and property tax relief.

  • Tax rebates expected to provide about $250 for single filers and up to $500 for married couples filing jointly.

  • Continued reductions in the state income tax rate to 4.99%.

Kemp said the tax relief is possible because of the state’s conservative budgeting and strong revenue collections

State leaders say the amended budget balances tax relief with continued investments in education, public safety, mental health services, transportation, and rural development.

Supporters say the spending plan reflects Georgia’s strong financial position and allows the state to provide tax relief while still funding key programs and infrastructure projects.

The amended FY 2026 budget will take effect as state agencies begin implementing the funding allocations and tax relief measures across Georgia.
