After a first-round exit to Tuscaloosa Academy last season, the North Sand Mountain Bison gear up for a new season. They return multiple starters for the team. The Bison went 5-6 last year with an even 3-3 region record. The Bison placed fourth in a tough region that includes Pisgah, Pleasant Valley, and Sand Rock. The Bison program is entering their second season with new head coach Jayson Lipscomb.
The Bison faces the tough task of having very little depth on the bench. When asked Coach Lipscomb said he would preserve his players that will be playing both ways. Lipscomb said, “It starts with good reps at practice.” He also said during the practice that his team needed to take care of each other. Coach explained that if they can get good reps faster and quicker it preserves the players who play both ways. Coach Lipscomb also said that “the goal is always to win the region and have good playoff seeding, but I want us to be the best we know that we can be.” Coach Lipscomb also explained his team was disappointed after losing the two seed at home. Coach said he loves the energy his team is bringing this year.
The Bison team has players like Duncan Wilks, Wyatt Starkey, Kade Davis, Jackson Burgess, and other experienced players to lead the way. Coach Lipscomb praised the experience his players have. The Bison open with a jamboree at Spring Garden on August 15. Their first regular season game starts with a home opener against Woodville on Thursday August 21. The Bison travel down the road to Ider on August 29 and then to Sand Rock on September 5. They will then host Cedar Bluff at home on September 12 and Gaston the following week for Homecoming on September 19. The Bison will then be on road for three straight weeks beginning with a Thursday night game at Valley Head on September 25, followed by a trip to Section on October 10, a game at Pleasant Valley the following week. The Bison end the season with a two-game home stand. The first being Pisgah on October 24, and another Thursday night Game against Susan Moore on October 30.
With returning experience to lead the way through the season, the Bison look to be the best team they know they can be. Get ready for Bison season. Tune in to listen to the Bison on 101.3 FM KWN. The dates being broadcasted are 8/21, 9/5, 9/25, 10/10, and 10/30.
