A 2-year-old child from Rock Spring is in critical condition after being shot in the head Christmas morning, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.
Walker County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Tarvin Road at approximately 9:50 a.m. on Christmas Day. First responders found the toddler suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately transported the child to a local hospital, where the child was taken into surgery.
Sheriff Wilson said the child’s father and another infant were inside the home at the time of the shooting. No additional injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Walker County Department of Family and Children’s Services are assisting the sheriff’s office as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
