Poison’s Bret Michaels Named 2020 ‘World College Radio Day’ Ambassador

Poison's Bret Michaels has been named the official 2020 Ambassador for the 10th annual World College Radio Day, set for Friday, October 2nd, 2020.

Bret Michael said in a statement about the honor:

In this difficult time, there has never been a more important year, or a better year, for the hope that college radio brings. It is the future of communications and, in a year like this, communication is key. Music itself is the soundtrack to life and helps drive us through these unprecedented times. When dorms and campuses may be quiet, this should be the time for college radio to be going strong.

According to the announcement: "Bret's Life Rocks Foundation will donate $10,000 in personal 'Bret Grants' to participating college radio stations around the world, matching the funds raised by the College Radio Foundation. Many college radio stations face severe financial difficulty and these grants will help them stay on the air."

Bret Michaels has long maintained that although Poison might not be deemed "high art" by the rock press establishment, that doesn't mean that their music doesn't matter in a big way for a lot of people: ["We don't always know what we're doing, we just do it with conviction. (Laughs) And somehow originality comes from that, y'know? And writing what I think are really, really strong songs both musically but mostly lyrically, like 'Something To Believe In"' or 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn.' They hit people's soul."] SOUNDCUE (:14 OC: . . . hit people's soul)
