UPDATE: Gunman Sought After Two Men Shot in Dade County; Residents Told to Stay Inside

DADE COUNTY, Ga. — A search is underway for a gunman after two men were shot Tuesday in Dade County, prompting a large law enforcement response and a shelter-in-place warning for residents near the Alabama state line.

The Dade County Sheriff’s Office confirmed two men were shot and injured in the 400 block of Michaels Road on Sand Mountain.

One of the victims was transported to a hospital by medical helicopter, while the second was taken by ambulance.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents along Michaels Road, from Highway 301 to the Alabama state line, to remain inside their homes while law enforcement works the active crime scene and searches the area.

Authorities are asking residents who see anyone walking in the area who is not clearly a law enforcement officer to call 911 immediately.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to assist Dade County, including the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Chattanooga Police Department.

Chattanooga Police personnel assisting include members of the department’s SWAT, Drone and Fugitive units.

Davis Elementary Placed on Soft Lockdown

Davis Elementary School was placed on a soft lockdown Tuesday as a precaution because of the nearby law enforcement activity.

An additional school resource officer was sent to the school.

Officials said there was no known threat to Davis Elementary, and the situation was being monitored in coordination with law enforcement.

The conditions and identities of the two shooting victims have not been released.

Authorities have also not released the identity or description of the person being sought or additional details about what led to the shooting.
