Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has opened an investigation into allegations that a candidate for the Georgia House of Representatives voted in primary elections in both Georgia and Nevada during the 2026 election cycle.
The Secretary of State’s Office announced the investigation Sept. 24, saying it had received reports alleging the candidate cast a ballot in Georgia’s May 19 primary and later voted in Nevada’s June 9 primary. The state’s announcement did not identify the candidate.
“Voting in another state’s primary while claiming to be a legal Georgia resident is a very serious allegation,” Raffensperger said. “My office has opened an investigation to gather all the evidence, determine the facts and take appropriate legal action.”
According to the Secretary of State’s Office, its Investigations Division will obtain and examine voting records, signatures and other evidence as it works to determine what occurred.
No finding of wrongdoing has been announced, and the allegations remain under investigation.
“Candidates are subject to the same laws as every voter in the state,” Raffensperger said. “We will follow the evidence and determine exactly what happened, we will fully enforce Georgia law.”
The Secretary of State’s announcement did not provide a timetable for completing the investigation or identify what potential legal action could follow.
