Drivers in Dade and Walker counties are seeing some of the lowest gasoline prices in Georgia, even as the statewide average remains above $4 per gallon.
According to AAA – The Auto Club Group, the Catoosa-Dade-Walker metro market is averaging $4.09 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, making it one of the least expensive markets in Georgia. Only Valdosta, at $4.08, and Albany, at $4.07, are reporting lower averages.
The local average is about 10 cents below Georgia’s statewide average of $4.19 per gallon.
Despite the slightly lower prices locally, drivers across Northwest Georgia are still paying considerably more for fuel than they were a year ago.
Georgia’s statewide average is now 10 cents higher than last week, 39 cents higher than a month ago and $1.31 higher than this time last year. At $4.19 per gallon, filling a standard 15-gallon tank costs approximately $62.85.
“Gas prices remain a challenge for Georgia families, especially for those who depend on their vehicles for work, school, and daily activities,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “With the state average still above $4 per gallon, many drivers are looking for ways to make every tank go further.”
Georgia’s current average remains below the state record of $4.49 per gallon, set in June 2022.
Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline stands at $4.47 per gallon. AAA says gasoline prices have remained unusually high heading into autumn, when prices would typically begin declining. Volatility surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and elevated crude oil prices are contributing to the higher prices.
Within Georgia, Athens has one of the highest metro averages at $4.24 per gallon, followed by Atlanta at $4.23 and Gainesville at $4.22.
AAA recommends drivers shop around for the lowest prices, combine errands to reduce unnecessary trips, keep their vehicles properly maintained and avoid aggressive acceleration and speeding to improve fuel economy.
