Motorists traveling through portions of DeKalb and Jackson counties should prepare for delays as a resurfacing project gets underway on State Route 117.
The Alabama Department of Transportation says resurfacing of approximately 5.5 miles of SR-117 is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept. 2, weather permitting.
Rogers Group, the contractor for the approximately $1.7 million project, will mill and resurface the two-lane highway from SR-75 in Ider to SR-71 in Flat Rock.
Drivers should expect single-lane closures while crews are working. A pilot car and/or flaggers will be used to direct motorists through the construction zone.
ALDOT is encouraging motorists traveling through the area to use caution, watch for workers and equipment, and allow additional time to reach their destinations.
The resurfacing project is expected to be completed sometime this fall, depending on weather and other construction conditions.
