A cross-state pursuit that began in Tennessee ended Tuesday in Dade County with the arrest of a Georgia man wanted on felony warrants in Walker County.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the agency’s Criminal Warrants Unit located Kennie Montieth, who was wanted on active felony warrants from Walker County, Georgia, and attempted to take him into custody.
Investigators said Montieth fled in a vehicle, leading deputies on a pursuit down Rossville Boulevard and onto Interstate 24. The chase continued west until the vehicle crossed into Georgia.
Authorities said the pursuit ended in Dade County after the vehicle slowed, allowing a Hamilton County deputy to safely perform a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop. Because the arrest occurred in Georgia, Montieth was turned over to Georgia law enforcement officers.
In addition to the outstanding Walker County felony warrants, Montieth now faces several new charges in both Georgia and Tennessee.
In Dade County, he was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, improper lane change/failure to maintain lane, no insurance, felony obstruction of law enforcement officers by threats or violence, and misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement officers.
Hamilton County authorities also charged Montieth with evading arrest, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, speeding, failure to maintain lane, and reckless driving.
Officials have not released details about the Walker County felony warrants that led to the attempted arrest.
