Motorcyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash at I-24/I-59 Split in Dade County
DADE COUNTY, GA — Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Tennessee motorcyclist Saturday afternoon at the Interstate 24 and Interstate 59 split in Dade County.
According to investigators, troopers responded to the crash just before 5:00 p.m. on June 6 near the westbound lanes of I-24 where the interstate connects with I-59 southbound.
Preliminary findings indicate a red or brown sedan struck the right side of a motorcycle being operated by Nicholas Daley, 35, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Troopers say the impact forced the motorcycle onto the left shoulder and into the median. The sedan reportedly continued traveling west on Interstate 24 and left the scene.
Daley’s motorcycle then struck the end of a guardrail, causing a severe crash.
Emergency responders transported Daley to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The crash led to lane closures on both interstates and caused significant traffic congestion throughout the area, including delays extending across the Georgia-Tennessee state line.
Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the incident and is asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle involved.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the suspect vehicle is urged to contact the Georgia State Patrol headquarters at 404-624-6000.
No additional details have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
