Georgia State Senate District 53 candidate Lanny Thomas says he is on the road to recovery and plans to continue campaigning following a recent medical emergency.

Thomas shared an update on his condition Sunday, two weeks after suffering a severe medical event that required surgery around his heart. According to a campaign release, Thomas is recovering well and is expected to make a full recovery.

The release states that Thomas and his medical team are confident in his ability to perform the duties of State Senator if elected. Thomas expressed gratitude to God and the medical professionals who treated him during the emergency.

Among those credited in the release was Chuck Hufstetler, who serves as an anesthesiologist at AdventHealth Redmond and was part of Thomas’ medical team.

Thomas said he plans to complete his rehabilitation and hopes to return home by the end of next week. He also encouraged voters to participate in the upcoming runoff election scheduled for April 7.

Thomas is the Republican candidate in the Georgia State Senate District 53 runoff race, which will be decided by voters across Northwest Georgia.
